The city of the two seas

Known as the "city of the two seas" due to its position between the Mar Grande and the Mar Piccolo, Taranto contains many secrets, all to be discovered.

With its seafront overlooking the Gulf of the Sirens, Taranto has a strong connection with the sea, thanks to its historic commercial port, one of the most important in the Mediterranean, which has roots since the times of Magna Graecia.

The history of Taranto is told through the two bridges that connect the old city to the modern one. One of them is the stone bridge, built after the flood of 1883, while the other is the swing bridge, inaugurated in 1887, which still enchants with its engineering mastery today. These bridges lead to the labyrinth of characteristic alleys located around the central Via Cava, where numerous artisan shops enrich local life.

In this strip of land, noble buildings and churches of different eras and styles stand majestically. For example, the Cathedral of San Cataldo is a perfect example of architecture that mixes Romanesque and Baroque elements. Likewise, the church of San Domenico has Gothic features that add further charm to this city with many historical and architectural facets.
